About Jamieson

Located in Victoria's North East, at the junction of the Goulburn and Jamieson rivers, Jamieson was first settled as a supply town for gold prospectors and many relics of this exciting past can be located around the town.

At its peak, Jamieson had a vibrant population of almost 4,000. Today, permanent residents total around 250, however Jamieson still remains a popular, relaxing tourist destination with easy access to all the High Country’s special features - local wineries and food producers, great fishing and boating , skiing and snowboarding at nearby Mount Buller , historical and river walks, alpine trails, bushwalking and spectacular sightseeing.

In autumn, Jamieson is alive with colours as the many European trees produce a stunning red and gold display. Visit Perkins and Grey Cafe for breakfast after a relaxed morning walk discovering the tranquil beauty of Jamieson's 'Island', where the Goulburn and Jamieson Rivers meet, or simply enjoy a freshly made coffee and cake while reading the morning papers.

Winter in Jamieson is the time for relaxing by the fire, or strolling through town to visit the Historical Museum and Pubs. Take the scenic River/Island Walk, or simply put your feet up, relax, and enjoy the quiet and the refreshing High Country air.

In spring and summer, bright orange breasted king parrots and crimson rosellas provide a lively contrast to the lush foliage of grand old Oaks, Maples and Elms. Around the town there are beautiful and varied displays of roses, azaleas, rhododendrons and colorful exotics. Enjoy a hit of tennis or take a refreshing swim in the clear waters of the Jamieson River at the rear of the cottages where you will also find picnicking and BBQ facilities

There are renowned local wineries and pubs to visit, great 4WD and walking tracks to explore, fishing, boating and horseriding, as well as winter sports at nearby Mount Buller and Mount Skene.
